Thor #621, May 2011, written by Matt Fraction, penciled by Pasqual Ferry and Salvador Larroca
Thor #619, March 2011, written by Matt Fraction, penciled by Pasqual Ferry
I’m really digging this. The creative team has succeeded in creating a book about non-Earthly beings that feels completely out of place with and/or ahead of the rest of the Marvel Universe. From the double page layouts Pasqual uses to John Workman’s lettering, which is unlike the rest of the company’s books, Thor feels as unique as a book about modern day Asgard should. The regal is mixed with the sci-fi on every page thanks to Pasqual’s pencils, providing Thor with a look that is unlike anything I’ve seen associated with the character before, yet it fits. Fraction and the team are bringing a lot of care and thought to this book and are succeeding in making me enjoy a Thor story, which has not happened before.
My Score: 8.7
